This is the new message from the main USFL site:
October 4, 2010
Dear New USFL Fans,
Today we are announcing that the New United States Football League will play in 2012 with 12 teams. This decision will allow us to start with more teams and start off stronger, with more fans. This will also allow the front office for each team to be up and working for a year before we kick off.
Other reasons that came into play on this decision include:
• We don't have to take a TV deal in a mad rush
• We can take our time and get the best deal for the league and it's fans
• It also keeps us clear of a potential NFL strike in 2011
As much as we wanted to go with 6 to 8 teams in 2011, the smartest thing to do was wait for 2012, kicking off with 12 strong teams and a TV deal that works for all parties. The owners are getting in place now and it won't be long before we can share all the important information you're looking for.
Thanks for understanding and we look forward to the 2012 season kickoff of the United States Football League.
