In the first USFL Draft in 1983, three of the first six picks were all Running Backs from Southern Methodist University (SMU); Tim Spencer and Eric Dickerson by the Arizona Wranglers, and Craig James by the Washington Federals. Only Dickerson did not play in the NFL as he chose to play for the Los Angeles Rams instead.

EndZone Sports Management purchased the moniker for the USFL as well as the trademark for the league. This purchase gives EndZone Sports Management the exclusive right to do business as the United States Football League. Former USFL teams were not included in the purchasing rights. This does not preclude any former USFL owners from joining the newly constituted USFL. EndZone Sports Management negotiated and obtained all the rights from Michael Dwyer. He has no management or active ownership stake. The league is pursuing a timetable which will allow games to be played commencing in the spring of 2013. There will be 8 teams and a planned a 14 game season with four teams making the playoff round. It will commence in March and end with the playoffs in June, so that players may be prepared if invited to NFL training camps. Eight teams are expected to start the league with expansion teams being added in 2014. Using old USFL names will be examined subject to trademark availability and fit of franchise location.
